One of the more surprising developments to come from Warner Bros. and DC Films over the last year or so was the idea that they’d start doing movies not set within a larger continuity. These have been compared to DC’s Elseworlds comics, and the studios are kicking off the concept with a highly anticipated package as the three time Oscar-nominee Joaquin Phoenix will show the origin of the Clown Prince of Crime....

With the season right upon us, it appears that Joker and Captain Marvel are the most popular 2019 Halloween costumes. Jim Starlin has clarified reports indicating that another of his characters will appear in Avengers 4. It was reported back in May that more of Starlin’s characters might be appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, but that seems to not actually be the case. While the comic legend clarified his previous statements, nothing is ever a sure thing for long in the MCU. Stan Lee is often the center of attention when talking about influential comic book writers, but Starlin is deservedly famous in his own right....

Disney has hired Joe Johnston to step in for Lasse Hallstrom to direct the reshoots for the holiday fantasy The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Johnston has had quite a storied history in Hollywood, beginning his film career as an effects illustrator and designer working for the miniature and optical effects unit on the original Star Wars in 1977. Destined for the director’s chair, Johnston’s feature film debut came at the helm of Disney’s blockbuster fantasy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!...

John Wick creator Derek Kolstad has joined the upcoming Disney+ limited series The Falcon and Winter Soldier as part of the writing team. While there’s not much in the way of concrete information surrounding the show’s plot, odds are that it will center on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), or Falcon, becoming the next Captain America after being given the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Todd Phillips’ Joker may have been based on DC Comics’ Clown Prince of Crime, but it featured a very different take on the tragic character that ended up with the most Oscar nominations of any film in 2020, leading to questions of a possible sequel. The Clown Prince of Crime lives up to his chaotic mantra in a stunning brand new IMAX poster for Joker. Debuting in 1940, the character was intended to be a one-off villain. Following an intervention from editors, however, The Joker ultimately survived, and has since endured throughout the decades, emerging as Batman’s most iconic nemesis. As such, the character has been adapted multiple times across a variety of mediums. Though most notably voiced by Mark Hamill in animation and video games, he’s been played to critical acclaim on the big screen by both Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s Batman and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight....

The John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum trailer is here, and it sports an old school tune to play over the images of violence. Keanu Reeves returns once again as the Baba Yaga this summer in what could be the final installment of the fan-favorite franchise that started back in 2014. Using Chapter 2’s cliffhanger ending as a jumping off point, Parabellum (the Latin phrase for “prepare for war”) basically sees John Wick take on the world as he fights for his life....

Joaquin Phoenix dedicated his win at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards for his work on Todd Phillips’ Joker to the late Heath Ledger. Playing the iconic DC villain in his very first standalone flick, Phoenix wowed the public with his intense portrayal of the character. So much so that he has been sweeping acting accolades for his latest role this awards season, previously winning at the Golden Globes. However, the actor didn’t forget that prior to his portrayal, Ledger’s outing as the comic book antagonist was an awards season darling....

It’s revealed Johnny Depp allegedly tried to get former Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara to fire ex-wife Amber Heard from DC Films’ Aquaman. Released in December 2018, Aquaman co-stars Heard in the role of Mera, the princess of Xebel, one of the underwater kingdoms. Heard also appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, where she made her debut as Mera, prior to co-starring in James Wan’s Aquaman alongside Jason Momoa. Heard was first cast in the role of Mera in early 2016....

The Punisher actor Jon Bernthal would like to take on Kingpin and Barracuda one day. A Punisher TV series was originally considered back in 2011, but once the character’s rights reverted back to Marvel Studios in 2012, the studio began considering ways to incorporate the anti-hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That finally happened with Bernthal making his debut appearance as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in Daredevil season 2 in 2016....

Apple’s chief design officer Jony Ive today was awarded the Professor Hawking Fellowship by the Cambridge Union Society. Ive is the second ever recipient of the award, which was created last year to recognize contributions to STEM fields and social discourse. As noted by Varsity, Ive was announced as the recipient of the Professor Hawking Fellowship during a ceremony today at Cambridge Union. To choose this year’s Hawking Fellowship recipient, the Cambridge Union’s ‘Hawking Committee’ listed 14 prominent figures in STEM fields, then had three Cambridge academics rank each of them....

Marvel/Netflix has unveiled comic book art inspired by Jessica Jones season 2, confirming the season’s episode titles in the process. In just a few days, the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration will debut when the second season of Jessica Jones arrives, revealing how Kilgrave’s death affects Jessica. With so much of the first season defined by the lead overcoming her trauma only to once again have to grapple with her abuser, the biggest question about this year’s Jessica Jones episodes is where the story will go....

Johnny Gargano memorably sported Captain Marvel-inspired ring attire during his NXT Championship defense against Adam Cole at WWE’s NXT TakeOver XXV. This is far from Gargano’s first Marvel-influenced set of wrestling gear, as he’s a noted fan of the company and its characters. For instance, at April’s NXT TakeOver: New York event, Gargano wrestled while wearing Iron Man-inspired attire. Another example can be seen in the picture above, which Gargano stated was meant to be a tribute to Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy, although many fans at first took it to be a Daredevil-focused homage....
